TOGO: PDP Aims to Improve Urban Transport System in Greater Lome with Tramway Construction

Revealing the key priorities of its political program on the show « Monday Politics, » the President of the Pan-African Democratic Party (PDP), Innocent KAGBARA, publicly unveiled the relevance of an ambitious project that he ardently aspires to build once in power. For the PDP, the construction of a tramway is necessary for urban traffic in Togo.

Given the rapid population growth in the capital, the tramway will help alleviate traffic congestion during peak hours and make the city more livable with smoother traffic flow. The party of the young visionary proposes urban lanes exclusively reserved for the tramway and Sotral buses, as well as directing motorcycle taxis towards peripheral areas of Greater Lome with the construction of 3 interchanges: GTA-ATIKOUME-PORT.

This ambitious project is undoubtedly costly but essential for the construction of an ecological and sustainable city with fewer accidents and better traffic flow. The project will be implemented gradually based on the costs, with a private partner using the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model, encompassing four planned lines:

  1. Pia-Hopital Dogta Lafie-GTA-Atikoume
  2. Noepe-Toll booth-Lycée Technique-Adigogome-Atikoume
  3. Atikoume-Doumassesse-Hanoukope-Assigame
  4. Assigame-Rond Point Port-Baguida-Agbavi

President Innocent KAGBARA asserts that the PDP is committed to realizing this project. He states, « The PDP has an ambitious political program for our country. We will continue to explain to the people of Togo the justification for our initiative. Once in government, we can make all our projects operational. »
